Road Closures
The 43rd Annual Sea Cavalcade will be held July 23rd and 24th. Road closures and no parking areas will be in effect to vehicular traffic in both Upper and Lower Gibsons areas. Expect delays; please use alternate detour routes.
Times for road closures are approximate. Roads will be re-opened to all traffic on a rolling schedule as the events progress.
PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE ZERO TOLERANCE OF ALCOHOL!!
Saturday, July 23rd, 2011: Parade
Morning to early afternoon
Parade Assembly Area 8:00am to noon
- Park Road ONE WAY TRAFFIC from Reed Road to Gibsons Way. Local traffic ONLY, including parade floats and participants, until after parade has cleared the area.
9:30am to 1:30pm
- NO PARKING AREA – Gower Point Road from School Road/Marine Drive to Winn Road (Holland Park and Business Area).
10:30am to 1:30pm—FULL road closure: Parade route
- Sunshine Coast Highway 101/Gibsons Way from Payne and Pratt Roads intersections to North Road/School Road intersection to Lower School Road/Marine Drive intersection — ALL parked vehicles must be removed.
- Gower Point Road from School Road/Marine Drive to intersection of Winn Road — ALL parked vehicles must be removed.
10:50am to 11:05am—FULL road closure: Mile race
- Sunshine Coast Highway 101/Gibsons Way from Veterans Rd intersection to Payne and Pratt Roads intersection — ALL parked vehicles must be removed.
Saturday, July 23rd, 2011: Family Street Dance, Salmon BBQ and Fireworks
Late afternoon to midnight
4:00pm to midnight
- NO PARKING AREA – Gower Point Road Business Area - ALL parked vehicles must be removed.
- ROAD CLOSURES – Gower Point Road from the intersection of School Road/Marine Drive to Winn Road.
Sunday, July 24th, 2011
Daytime
8:00am to 5:00pm
- Gower Point Road from the intersection of School Road/Marine Drive to Winn Road (both No Parking and road closures).
Sunshine Coast Transit System (BC Transit Users)
Due to road closures in Lower Gibsons, after 4:00pm on Saturday, July 23rd there will be no bus service in the Gibsons Loop. Sunday, July 24th, 2011, from 8:00am to 5:00pm there will be no bus service in the Gibsons Loop.
During the parade on Saturday, July 23rd, buses will operate via Payne Road, Reed Road and North Road to and from Langdale Terminal between 10:30am and 1:30pm. Flag stop procedures will be in effect on Payne Road and Gibsons Way.
