Friday, July 22, 2011: pre-festival kick-off
Kick off the 2011 Sea Cavalcade festivities with this fun day at the Gibsons & Area Community Centre.
Activities offered on Friday July 22 to help kick off the Sea Cavalcade and they are All Free!!!!
Parent & Tot play time 3:00–5:00pm: Ball hockey • Indoor Soccer • Basketball • Bouncy Castle or bring your bike or tricycle.
Roller Derby Demonstration 6:00–7:15pm: The Roller Girls have committed to a Demo Event and to hang out after the show to promote inline/roller skating.
Public roller inline skating 7:15–9:00pm: We have close to 60 pairs of inline rental skates as well as music, lights and action!

Fraser Blues Aerial Demonstration Team Fly PastFormation Demonstration Team—The Fraser Blues will be flying on Saturday and Sunday. The team is led by a former Canadian Forces Snowbirds Lead, and fly 1940's vintage L-17 "Navion" aircraft. With three ex Fighter Pilots, and two General Aviation pilots, The "Blues" provide a unique demonstration of close, dynamic formation flying in aircraft available to the average GA pilot. Sea Cavalcade MileJust before the parade, the highway is clear of cars and hundreds of spectators are watching: the perfect setting for a road mile! Open to runners of all ages and abilities—featuring a fast net downhill course with no turns. Awards and refreshments following. Cash prizes to 1st male and female. Age group awards from 9 & Under to 70+. Details and Results. |

Family DayAfter the parade, head over to Brothers Park next to the Gibsons and Area Community Centre with the kids for the Bingo, Face Painting, Lions Club Food Concession, Hoppin' Ponies, Kids' Races, Sea Cavalcade Food Concession and Souvenirs, t-shirts, Educational Booths, Craft Vendors, Popcorn, Candy Floss, Dancing Bear Story Telling, Ice cream, Pony Rides by Mystiques Andalusians & Farm Ventures, Under the Sea Bouncy Castle, dunk shower, Sky Walkers, The Balloon Man, kids water games (BRING YOUR TOWEL) plus more activities and lots of fun!!! Discover the "Treasures of the Sea" by finding the key to open the treasure chest! You can play as many times as you like. $2.00 per play. If you find the key and open the treasure chest you win a prize. Gibsons Youth Centre: A fun, free space for youth aged 13-18. Supervised drop-in 5 days a week, open late on Friday nights. Coast Guard Boat Rescue Exercise Pyrotechnic Display and Star Gate Special EffectsCome and see the pirates in actionThe Gibsons Coast Guard Auxiliary Search & Rescue Unit will respond to a realistic simulation of an explosion and fire onboard a vessel. The Search and Rescue Crew will survey the scene, formulate a rescue plan and assist with the cleanup of our beaches and waterfront. |

Virtues Rock Treasure HuntOver 300 painted rocks will be hidden in Holland Park, Winegarden Park, the dock and the business section of Gibsons Landing. The bottom of each rock will have the word of a virtue painted on it such as kindness, joy, honesty, peace, etc. In addition, some of the rocks will have the word 'winner' or 'prize' written on them which can be brought to the booth on Gower Point Road for a prize. The booth will also have information about the treasure hunt. This event is sponsored by the Baha'i Community. |

Fireworks: Music Lights the Night"Ooooh... Ahhhh!" Head down to the Landing in Gibsons (or anywhere with a view of the harbour) before 10pm on Saturday night for a spectacular fireworks display to music! One of the best 'small town' fireworks shows in the province, this dazzling array of colour and lights is sure to please both young and old. Operated by the Sea Cavalcade Committee and Gary Mills and crew. Note: there will be extra bus service after the fireworks to get everyone home safely. Leave your car at home or park and ride from outside downtown Gibsons. The bus stop is on Gibsons Way, past the corner of School Road. |

There will be heritage boats from the museum's collection, professionally and privately restored traditional boats, and new owner-built wooden small boats. Putt-putts, canoes, rowboats, kayaks, daysailers, dinghies and displays from heritage organisations of the Sunshine Coast will celebrate the enduring craft of wooden construction. |

Loggers Sports ShowAlways a crowd-pleaser, the West Coast Lumberjack Loggers Sports Show features logging skills honed in BC's pristine forests and brought to the Sea Cavalcade. In a lighthearted, competitive spirit, four lumberjacks race to out-climb, out-saw, out-chop and out-throw each other in a number of events. Two shows: 11am and 2:30pm. |
